Performance Monitoring in ATM Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
ATM networks provide end-to-end QoS guarantees to connections for their lifetime in the form of bounds on delays, errors and losses. Performance management involves measurement of these parameters accurately and taking control measures, if required, to improve performance. This is very important for real time connections in which losses are irrecoverable and delays cause interruptions in service. In this paper, an intelligent management architecture and an information ow model for performance management proposed in the literature is reviewed. A brief description of the related ITU-T standard for performance monitoring is given and several schemes for measurement or estimation of QoS parameters are documented. Future work required in the area is also presented in the last section.

Methods and Models for In-Service Monitoring and Estimation of Cell Losses in ATM Networks
This paper discusses in-service methods and models for monitoring of network performance parameters, especially cell losses, in ATM networks. A model-based method to estimate short-term parameters (the size of the loss-free and loss periods) is applied to real traffic data. Based on these results a new measure of the short-term parameters in the cell loss process, expressed in terms of OAM cell...
متن کاملCell Transfer Delay Monitoring in ATM Networks
One of the main features of ATM networks is to allow the establishment of connections with different Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. The monitoring of QoS parameters is fundamental to help network management decisions control traffic contracts. In this paper we present an in-service procedure to monitor end-to-end cell delay in ATM connections through OAM performance management cells. Th...
متن کاملM1, M2, ..., Mk/G1, G2,..., Gk/l/N Queue with Buffer Division and Push-Out Schemes for ATM Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)
In this paper, loss probabilities and steady state probabilities of data packets for an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network are investigated under the buffer division and push-out schemes. Data packets are classified in classes k which arrive in Poisson fashion to the service facility and are served with general service rate under buffer division scheme, finite buffer space N is divided in...
متن کاملA TMN system for VPC and routing management in ATM networks
In this paper we present a VPC and Routing Management Service for multi-class ATM networks. Considering the requirements, we decompose the Management Service into a number of distinct but cooperating functional components which we map to the TMN architecture. We describe the architectural components and analyse their operational dependencies and information exchange in the context of the overal...
متن کاملINQIRE: A Software Approach to Monitoring QoS in ATM Networks
32 synchronous transfer mode (ATM) is a connection-oriented, fast packet switching protocol adopted for broadband integrated services digital networks (B-ISDN) [1, 2]. All types of voice, video, and data information are carried in 53-byte ATM cells consisting of 5-byte headers and 48-byte information fields. Unlike traditional best-effort packet networks, ATM networks can support a wide range o...
